One Book One Community Wisconsin
Please consider joining me and other Wisconsin schools, cities, libraries, etc. by joining our "One Book One Community" event. More information about the "One Book One Community" concept can be found on their website at http://onebookonecommunity.org/home/ The theme we are using are those that support the bucket filling concept. There are several books with that theme that can be found on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_11?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=bucket+filler&sprefix=bucket+fill%2Caps%2C259
My favorite one and the one we will be using is "Have You Filled A Bucket Today" by Carol McCloud ( http://www.bucketfillers101.com/index.php ) From the jacket cover of the book "Through sweet, simple prose and vivid illustrations, this heartwarming book encourages positive behavior as children see how very easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation, and love on a daily basis." I also like using puppets or manipulatives with my stories. Mimi Boyd from Mimi's Motif's (http://www.mimismotifs.com/) has exclusively developed a great manipulative that can be used with any of the bucket books. It consists of a clear bucket with bright, colorful shapes that can represent the various good things people can do to fill buckets. It can easily be manipulated with any of her puppets or puppets you may already have. It's a great way to visualize the bucket filling concept. I have been using their prototype so it isn't featured on her website YET but will be very soon. Check her website often! Her Dewey Puppet is awesome too!
I'm currently working on a website where we can share community event information and resources people are using for their events that can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/obocwisconsin/ You can also like our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/One-Book-One-Community-Wisconsin/330776663699085 or follow us on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/OBOCWisconsin We are looking to have our event in the fall of the year to carry the theme through the 2013-14 school year.
